Getting started

Before you begin

Zari targets Linux and requires a UTF-8 locale and a terminal supported by ncursesw. Version 0.1 is under active development, so test destructive operations on non-critical data when evaluating a release.

Create your configuration

Run zari init once to create zari.toml, keymap.toml, and theme.toml in the active config directory. Existing files are kept unchanged.

zari init

Open a location

Run Zari without an argument to open the current working directory, or pass a path directly.

The three panes

• Parent — context from the directory above
• Current — the active directory and cursor
• Preview — text, directory contents, symlink details, or file metadata

Going back

Press h to move to the parent directory. Press b to return to the previous directory in navigation history, and B to move forward again. If a regular file opened in another terminal application, quit that application first to return to Zari.

• j / k — move down and up
• h / l — leave or enter a directory
• Space — select an item
• ? — show the live keybinding reference
• q — quit and restore the terminal
